1st off, I'd like to say thanks to everyone that came out on the 19th for the season opener. I had a blast and believe so did everyone else! It was good to see old friends and new faces out on the field. I'm hoping for a good turn out all year.
We have lots in store for the year. For those of you that were unable to make it out to the first game, we completed the 1st of 2 forts on the field. It's on the right side as you walk on. The fort was a big hit, everybody wanted to start on that side. I know the right side has seen the most changes thus far, with the fort, a new 7 ft stand up and a few small bunker updates, but we have plans for the rest of the field as well! It has been talked about in the past, adding a trail on the far side of the field in the woods. It will connect both ends and come out by the large fox hole/soon to be pill box. This will be started in the next couple of weeks as soon as the mower is up and running. We will also be starting soon the fort on the left end, the viewing area for spectators and of course, more bunkers! If anybody knows of where we can get skid/pallets, let us know, we need many to complete the field updates for this year.
I do want to touch on this, and that is the issues with Monster Ball paintballs. There have been complaints of how thick the shell is. They are not breaking on impact. It's almost like shooting a plastic marble. My concern with this is, how long will it be before it will break a lens in a mask and someone gets hurt? One bad thing can destroy a lot! I know of some other fields that have banned Monster Balls, and we have been thinking of that also for the club. I want to do some more research into this issue before the field will make a call on it.
The next game is on May 3rd at noon! I know I can't wait for it! It looks like the season will be every other weekend this year, mostly Sunday games, but we are going to try for some Saturdays as well. If you have any ideas you would like to see at the field, as in bunkers, game play or whatever, let us know! We'll see what we can do.
One last thing, Grimm City Sports representative is on hand at the field for game days. They have gear for sale if needed, will answer questions to the best of their ability, and will help with marker and other gear issues as much as possible. Their web site is not up yet but if you would like to contact them, feel free to send them an email at grimmcitysports@yahoo.com.
Take care and play safe!
